HORSES AT TAKANINI SIX FURLONGS BY BONSTAR TEPOTO'S BRILLIANT EFFORT The outside grass track at Takanini yesterday morning was in particularly good order for galloping and somo fast times were recorded. Tepoto (Coleman) again displayed speed by completing five furlongs in 1.1 from a moving start, but carrying about 9.0, which made it a good trial. A fog early in the morning made it impossible to time Dauber (Bartlo) over six furlongs, although ho hit out impressively at the end. Bronwen (Spinley) shaded Palustre (Green) over five furlongs, run in 1.2. Pocket Venus (E. Clifford) hit out freely over three furlongs. Solitary (Spinley) ' broke away from Penzance (Green), and ran five ■ furlongs in 1.2 3-5. Penzance covered half a mile in 48 2-os.

lnver (Coltman) went nicely over six furlongs in 1.14 4-5 without much effort.

Hunting Cape (Green) ran three furlongs in 395, hitting out in improved fashion.

Glen Connell (Green) finished up useful work by increasing .tho paco in the straight. Veritable (Smith) and Oriental Bay" ran five furlongs together in 1.4, tho last three in 395. Gay Opal Goes Fast Princess Val (Coleman) and Constant Star (Clarke) were associated over half a mile run in 50 4-os. Little Star (E. Clifford) covered three furlongs in 36 4-ss.

Bonstar (Quedley) registered the best six furlongs, 1.13 3-ss, his stablecompanion, Gay Opal, who failed to pick up the former at the half-mile, making up the leeway to finish alongside and take 48 3-5s for his four furlongs. Tellsom (Bartle) was not exerted to run three in 37 2-ss, nor were Esquire (Green) and Lysis (Comerford), when registering 50 4-5s for half a mile. Marie's Acre (Tinker) and Philcourt (Bartle) were sprinted ji couple of furlongs, the first fast work since their arrival at Takanini. On the plough, Hunter's Rose (Quedley) ran live furlongs in 1.2 3-5, and Inquisitor (Michel) six in 1.21. Saccone (Orcein) was tried a furlong on this track, running 13 l-5s from a standing start. Brilliant Acre (Walters) was timed to run six furlongs in 1.17 1-5, doing his best. F. Smith's Te Aroha Quartet

Several horses were set useful tasks on this track, including F. Smith's quartet, Round Up, VaTamito, Anion and Full Hand, who are to race at lo Aroha. Morse is expected back from Wanganui this morning to take Hunter s Rose to Te Aroha. Royevrus is still in useful work, but his trainer stated yesterday the chestnut was not likely to race again until the tracks soften. Lady Fox has been having an easy time since the Te Rapa meeting, where she suffered some slight injuries through being cramped while racing. Bachelor King, among those indulged in useful work yesterday, is expected to race at Te Aroha on the second day. E. Pope stated yesterday that Bronze Trail is being sent home for a spell. Several of the yearlings who have recently joined Takanini stables were at the track yesterday, including two Vermeer youngsters under A. Tinker and E. Pope respectively. SALE OF GAY SON NEGOTIATIONS IN TRAIN Subject tc his passing a veterinary test, the three-year-old colt. Gay Son. will go to .India to carry the colours of the Maharajah of Idar, for whom L. H Hewitt trains. The colt was sold by the breeder and owner of the colt, Mr. A. F. M. Symes, Hawke's Bay, through the agency of Mr. A. D. Potter, Auckland, who purchased Gft.v Talkie on the Maharajah's behalf. Last season, Gay Son won the Wcllesley Stakes, and two-year-old handicaps at Masterton and Woodvillo, while he was second to Peerless in the Canterbur v Welcome Stakes.

This season Gay Son was third in the Wanganui Guineas and won the Great Northern Guineas, but was placed third for interference. On the following day he won the Liverpool Handicap, and, later, the Gothard Memorial Handicap at Woodville, the Members' Handicap at Riccarton and the Clifford Plate at Ellerslie. At the Trenthain meeting last month, he was unplaced in .the Wellington Stakes and ran second to Lady Montana in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap. He has started 24 times for seven wins, two seconds and live thirds, for €2260 iu prize-money He is by Beau Pere from La Moderne.
