CAMBRIDGE FARM SOLD

THE BARDOWIE PROPERTY UP TO £6B AN ACRE REALISED [from our own correspondent] CAMBRIDGE, Thursday The historic Bardowie homestead changed hands when the whole of the land, properties and live and dead stock in the estate of I;he late Mr. James Taylor wore offered by public auction. The new own>sr is Mr. B. H. Moreland, who purchased the adjoining farm from Mr. Taylor several years ago. It is understood 'that Mr. and Mrs. Moreland, sen., of Te Rapa, will occupy the homestead. The attendance at the sale was one of the largest seen in the Waikato for many years. Bidding was fairly brisk for the four main properties. The homestead section was the first to be offered. It comprised 21} acres and the large kauri house erected 59 years ago by Mr. Taylor, and also two stables fitted with stalls and loose boxes, a largo iron manure shed, cowshed, shearing shed, blacksmith's shop, cattle and sheep yards and dip. Mr. Moreland purchased the property for £6B an acre. , The original Bardowie Estate consisted of 750 acres, but the greater portion had been sold some years ago. The remainder, consisting of 75 acres across the road from the homestead, was sold to Mr. H. Harrison, of Te Puke, at £47 10s an acre. The "-zig-zag" farm of 59 acres, opposite the Hautapu factory, together with two cottages and a cowshed, was purchased by a neighbouring farmer, Mr. D. Bourke, at £35 10s an acre.

Mr. T. Taylor, of Hamilton, secured 51 acres on the Hamilton Road, about 3£ miles from Cambridge, at £4B an acre. The final lot, of 287 acres at Puketaha, was offered as a block, but there were no inquiries. It was then re-offered in subdivisions, but again no bids were forthcoming.
