CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING

CONTESTS AT TAKAPUNA In conjunction with the official opening of Physical Fitness Week, the Takapuna Gun Club held a clay-bird shooting tourney at its grounds at Barry's Point, Takapuna, on Saturday afternoon. The principal event of Ithe day was a 15-bird match for Mr. R. H. Bartley's trophy, which was won by L. Bedford on the 2Sth bird after a shoot-off with E. Monteith. Results were as follows: Seven-bird Eye-opener. —L. J. Henderson (36yds) shot the possible and won tho sweep money outright. E. Monteith (14yds), A. J. Hanigan (16yds) and L. F. Strain (14yds) all shot six birds each for second place. Seven-bird Match, off 16yds.—L. F. Strain (14yds) shot the possible and won the sweep money outright. E. Monteith (14yds) and L. J- Henderson (16yds) lied for second place with five birds each. Sevcn-bird Match, off 16yds. L. J. Henderson (16yds) shot six birds and won the sweep money outright. L. Bodford and L. I'. Strain tied for second place with five birds Seven-bird Gimcrack, back 2yds a hit. - L. F. Strain (12-22 yds) shot six birds. and won tho sweep money outright E. Monteith (12-20 yds), L. Bedford (12-20 yds) and L. J. Henderson (12-20 yds) tied with five birds each for second place. , Fifteen-bird Match for R. H. Bartley s Trophy.—E. Monteith (14yds) and L. Bedford (14yds) tied with 13 birds and divided the sweep money. In the shoot-off for the trophy L. Bedford won oil the 28th bird. L. F. Strain shot 12 birds and L. J. Henderson 11 birds. , f , i(k Ten-bird Double-rise Match. —E. Monteith, nff i2vds shot nine birds and won tho sweep money outright. L. Bedford, off 12yds, was second with seven birds. Ten-bird Match, off 16yds.—L. F. Strain shot nine birds and won the sweep money outright E. Monteith shot eight birds for second, and A. J. Hanigan shot seven birds challenge match between E. Monteith and L. F. Strain, using one another s guns, was won by Strain on the 24th bird. The Takapuna Gun Club will send a team to Auckland Gun Club next Saturday for a challenge for the Dewer Cup, which the Takapuna Gun Club held in 3034. METROPOLITAN GUN CLUB The Metropolitan Gun Club held a series of skeet matches on its Mangere grounds on Saturday afternoon. Silver 6poonß were won by \ E. Robinson, for the best score on the gun, and by J. C. Whitney, for the best score with handicap . Individual returns were:—A. E. Robinson, oo >4 21; A. L. Byrne. 20, 22, 21: J. C.
