Through the car which she was driving from Palmerston North to Wanga* nui capsizing at 1.45 o'clock this morning near Putiki, a woman suffered injuries from which she succumbed shortly after her admission to tho Wanganui Hospital. The victim was: — Mrs. Marjorie Hughes, wife of Mr. A. J. Hughes, manager of the Fordell Timber Company,

With three passengers, Mrs. Hughes was .returning from Palmerston North. She passed another car near Putiki and immediately'- capsized. Tho t driver of tho second car, compelled to swerve suddenly to avoid tho upturned car, also capsized. Ho and his four passengers were not injured. The passengers iu Mrs. Hughes' car escaped with slight injuries. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband and three children.

The van, which was being used to convey artillery men from Palmer Head to Fort Dorset, overturned. Therp were four other men in the van. All the persons involved in the accident, except Mr. Beattie, escaped injury, and neither vehicle was badly damaged. MISHAP AT CORNER THREE BRIGADESMEN HURT ONE IN "SERIOUS CONDITION [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAMILTON. Sunday Three members of the Hamilton fire brigade, Messrs. B. L. J. Kingston, Richard Nolan and Colin Thompson, all single men, were involved in a motorcar accident on the Frankton-Wliata-whata I?oad at 9.30 a.m. to-day. Tho car in which the three men were travelling failed to negotiate a bend and capsized into a bank, a truck being used to right the vehicle before the passengers could be extricated. The car, which was driven by Mr. Kingston, was proceeding in tho direction of Whatawhata, the accident occurring four miles from Frankton. Mr. Nolan suffered severe head injuries, Mr. Thompson lacerations and Mr. Kingston shock. The injured men were taken to the Waikato Hospital in a St. John ambulance, Mr. Nolan's condition to-ni<rht being regarded as fairly serious. Mr. Thompson was discharged after treatment, while Mr. Kingston's condition was reported to be not serious. CHILD'S PALL OVER CLIFF INCIDENT AT MOTUIHI When she fell over a cliff at Motuihi on Saturday, Ailsa Cloghorn, aged 13, of Seacliff Road. Onehunga. suffered an injury to her ankle and possibly internal injuries. She was admitted to the Auckland Hospital. Her condition last night was not regarded as serious. THROUGH WINDSCREEN WOMAN THROWN FROM CAR Thrown through the windscreen when the motor-car in which she was a passenger failed to take a corner and struck a post on the Mount Wellington highway early on Saturday morning, Mrs. Violet Gulland, aged 33, widow, of Clendon Avenue, Papatoetoe, suffered concussion and abrasions. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance, her condition last night Jbeing not serious. PEDESTRIANS KNOCKED DOWN TWO IN SERIOUS CONDITION Struck by a tramcar in Victoria Street West shortly after eight o'clock on Saturday evening, Mr. Edward John Sinton, aged 44, married, of 10 Wilkins Street, Freeman's Bay, suffered head injuries and concussion. ' He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. His condition last night was fairly serious. Knocked over by a motor-car at the corner of Hobson Street and Wellesley Street on Saturday night, Mr. William Thomas Queenin, aged 75, of 131 Plobson Street, City, suffered a compound fracture of the right leg and shock. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. His condition last night was regarded as serious. LACERATIONS ON HEAD BOY STRUCK BY MEAT HOOK Struck over the eye with a meat hook at work on , Saturday, John Cecil Brown, aged 15, butcher's assistant, of 11 England Street, Ponsonby, suffered lacerations on the head. Ho wns admitted to the Auckland Ifbspital, and his condition last night was reported to bo fairly serious.
