Gay Hunting was fourth Time, lm 15s NOTES ON THE WINNERS ALL STRONGLY SUPPORTED MATAROA SECURES DOUBLE Form worked out well on Saturday, the second day of the Woodville meeting. After running third to Lady Furst and Dungarvan in the Woodville Handicap, and in their absence, Siegmund won the Autumn Handicap, to make his first success in 16 starts this season. The victory, therefore, was overdue. At a difference of 51b. in her favour, Florence Mills was able to turn the tables on Mittie in the Telegraph Handicap. Flammarion dividing them in Saturday's race- Brunhild again did not disclose a shadow of her last season's best form.

The fashionably-bred White Gold, who for a long time has been signalling an early win on the Awapuni tracks, scored at last in the Maharahara Handicap, in which, as on many previous occasions, she was favourite. White Gold won very easily but it would bo unwise to assume that she has uncovered a reef of any extent. Varimond, who is trained at Bulls, has shown useful form in the first season, but in her only success prior to the Debutant Stakes at Woodville, she had the advantage of a good start. Varimond is one of the Eulogy family and as such will have considerable stud value at the end of her racing career.

Prediction, winner of the Woodville Novice Plate, is a three-year-old halfbrother by Hunting Song to Prince Colossus. Ho was within a neck of breaking his maiden status last September when Morning Flight just won the Trial Stakes at Foxton.

Two wins in two starts is a very happy result for Mr. A. H. Burt, the new owner of Mataroa. High-weight races used to bo Mr. Burt's forte in his riding days and evidently he has not lost his flair for selecting a good weight-carrier. Speculators were exceptionally successful 1 in making favourite the winner of every race excepting Siegmund, second fancy for the Autumn Handicap at Woodville on Saturday, this being the best record for well-sup-ported runners this season. Sternchase, who gained his first success in the Mangapapa Handicap since he won at Te Rapa in November, returned a short price, but made the fifth winning favourite in succession. This was Sternchase's only start at the meeting. RODE THREE WINNERS W. J. BROUGHTON'S SUCCESS The most successful jockey at the Waikato Racing Club's meeting on Saturday was W. J. Broughton, who rode Nora Gregor, Lexden and Rollicker to victory, all the horses paying good dividends. Broughton's other mounts were Estro and Hoyal Bachelor.
