OBITUARY
MR. J. P. SINCLAIR Mr. James Paterson Sinclair, whoso death occurred recently, was well known in the eighties and early nineties as a storekeeper and gum buyer at Swanson and later as a farmer at Tajkanini. He came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Mermaid from Liverpool, landing in Auckland in 1859, and for some time the family resided on College Hill, then a growth of tea-tree, before removing to Avondale. Mr. Sinclair was the last member of the family.
MR. E. A. SKEET [by telegraph—own correspondent] , OPOTIKI, Sunday The death has occurred in Opotiki of Mr. Ernest Albert Skeet, aged 70 years. -Mi*. Skeet was..the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs7~Rv-J\,l. Skeet, of Gisborne, and spent the greater part of his life in the Poverty Bay district/- He was well known to settlers throughout Poverty Bay as building contractor. He had been living in retirement in Opotiki for six years. In his younger days Mr. Skeet was one of Gisborne's most prominent Rugby players, gaining representative honours in several seasons. He served in the South African War, leaving New Zealand with the Sixth Contingent, New Zealand Mounted Rifles.
