GOVERNMENT RECEPTION IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH DESIRE FOR CO-OPERATION £BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Thursday An official reception to the delegates to tho tenth Australian and New Zealand cancer conference was given by the Government at Parliament House this afternoon. '"Wo believe that wherever science directs wo should go," said the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, in welcoming the guests. "Scientific investigation of matters concerning the health of the people cannot be overlooked, or at least wo cannot afford to overlook that particular aspect of human affairs. We want to see the best medical scrvico in the world in New Zealand, and wo want to see the best working conditions for those who dive the service. I am not only speaking for Labour, I am speaking for tho Government of this country. That is our ideal,- that is our objective, and we are going straight ahead with it." Sir James Elliott, president of the New Zealand branch of tho British Empire Cancer Campaign, said ho felt certain that tho extremely friendly relations between Australian and New Zealand doctors would do much to promote goodwill among the people of both countries.
Replying on behalf of the visitors. Dr. Cumpston, Director-General of Health for the Commonwealth, said: "The future of the white races in this part of the world lies largely in our hands. What the future has for us we do not know, but it is clear to lis of tho Australian delegation that whatever may come we will be found working with you in the same spirit of happy co-operation we have experienced on this occasion."
