DANGER OVER
VICTORIAN BUSH FIRES COOL. CHANGE COMES INQUEST UPON VICTIMS OPEN FINDING GIVEN By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received February 14. 10.20 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 14 A cool change which is expected to last two days has brought to an end the bush fire danger for the present. Although 40 houses were endangered in .various places yesterday, oaly four were destroyed. The change of wind swept the fires back into burnt-out country. Fire fighters are still standing by in case of emergencies. An open finding was recorded by the coroner to-day at the inquests on the eight victims of the Toolangi fire last month. This coroner said he was unable to say with certainty how the fire began, but ho was inclined to agree with the forest officers that the fire was deliberately lit.
The total fire relief fund is now reaching the £200,000 mark, but the claims lodged total £1,000,000.
