OLD AGE PENSIONS
Sir, —Having frequently witnessed the depressing spectacle of a _ queue of elderly people awaiting their monthly pension, .1 ha ve wondered if some method of payment could be devised other than this, which to the most insensitive must be tiresome, while to others it holds all the elements of torture. Would it not be a workable scheme for the Government to issue to all old-age pensioners not already in possession of such a Post Office Savings bankbook, paying in to each account the amount due monthly P This, on the pensioner presenting his or her book, could be entered ami drawn upon as required. 1 believe the present Government suggested at one time the posting of all pensions, but this method would, or so it appears to me, be safer and more simple. John Brown.
