NO DOMINION DRAMA
COMPLAINT BY CRITIC .ABSENCE DEPLORED LONDON, Feb. 2 Outspoken criticism of the absence of Dominion drama in the English theatre is voiced by Mr. Sydney W. Carroll, theatrical critic of the Daily telegraph, who is an Australian. Mr. Carroll says little or no attempt has been made truthfully to represent the ways of living, thoughts, and achievements of Britons throughout the world. "Dominion Writers are just as responsible as British managers and authors for this grave omission." ho observes "There are no millionaires in Australia. If thero are they have never subsidised a play with an Australian motive.
"No author ever sent me even an vinproclticible play on modern Dominion life," he adds. "I am unable to recall any really worthy, inspired drama from which I have obtained a thrill of Dominion pride. "I fling this idea pathetically into the air. 1 have not any hopes that it will be exploited, but if we value the Empire we should do something quickly." Mr. Carroll, who was born in Victoria in 1877, is himself a producer of plays. He established the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park in 1933.
