FOR UNEXPECTED GUESTS
EMERGENCY CAKE RECIPE When there are no small members in a family it sometimes happens that there is nothing to offer an unexpected guest for tea except the obvious bread and butter or biscuits. Here is a recipe for delicious little cakes which will take scarcely more time to get ready than it will take you to apologise. Heat the oven for about 10 minutes while preparing and grease a dozen or more fairly deep little patty pans. Number will depend on size. Cream half a teacup of butter with half a teacup of sugar. Add two beaten eggs and half a cup of milk, and beat well. Then stir in one and a-half teacups of flour, sifted with one heaped teaspoonful of baking powder, but do not beat. Add a few sultanas and half fill the tins with the mixture. Bake in moderate oven about 15 minutes.
