RIFLE SHOOTING

AUCKLAND CITY CLUB LONG RANGE COMPETITION Coached shooting in both grades was held by the Auckland City Defence Rifle Club over the long ranges on Saturday. The day having been set aside for this purpose, the scores do not count for the championship or trophy series. The light wind gave the coaches plenty of changes to contend with. CONTESTS AT AKARANA The .second series in the Akarana Rifle C'iub's trophy match was contested over the ranges of 800 yards and 900 yards on Saturday for trophies presented by Messrs. J. B. Donald and N. Graham. Conditions were again unfavourable for high scoring. A light rear fish-tail wind prevailed throughout the afternoon. Silver spoons were won by C'. Harris and A. Buchanan. CLEVEDON CLUB'S EVENTS Members of the Clevedon Defence Rifle Club competed for a silver spoon last Saturday, shooting on the 200 yds and 300 yds ranges. The weather was sultry, with overcast conditions and an occasional easterly drift. A good performance was recorded by H. R. McKenzie to gain a popular win.
