CONDITIONS IN MINES
CONFERENCE AT HTJNTLY UNION AND COMPANIES VARIOUS POINTS DISCUSSED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HtTNTLY, Monday A conference between representatives of all the Waikato mining companies and representatives of the Northern Miners' Union was held at Huntly today. Representatives of four insurance companies also attended, Mr. T. 0. Bishop, secretary "of the Coal Mine Owners' Association, and Mr. A. McLagan, secretary of the United Mine Workers, were present. ' When interviewed this evening Mr. McLagan said he could make no comment on the day's proceedings, except that several matters that were in dispute between the miners and the mine owners were discussed, also matters concerning the payment of compensation and the rate of holiday par. The result of the conference is to be reported to the Waikato miners at a general meeting to be held during the coming week-end. Mr. McLagan said that rumours that the price of coal was to be discussed were not correct.
