NEW LYNN INTERESTS
EXCAVATION FOR PARK MORE STATE HOUSES There was still approximately 3500 cubic yards of the original excavation of Lawson Park, New Lynn, to be completed, stated a report presented by the engineer at a meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council. In view of the experience last winter, it would be necessary to increase the batter, added the report, which would require the excavation of a further 2500 yards, Without the extra work on the batter, it would take about three and a-linlf months for 20 men to complete the work. The council decided that the Mayor, Mr. A. T. lieimaji, should approach the Minister of Labour to make arrangements for the majority of the men to remain on street works and a small number to partially complete the park work. Advice was received from the Hon. H. G. R. Mason that the tender of Mr. T. F. Playfair had been accepted for the erection of a further nine State houses in New Lynn. Receipts for the seven months totalled £28.257, as against £15,705 for the same period last year, reported the town clerk. The principal increase was £11.(582 in refunds of wages paid. The bank overdraft showed an improvement of £2825.
