PARENTS' DAY

TECHNICAL COLLEGE INSPECTION OF PUPILS' WORK FINE HORTICULTURAL DISPLAY Tho Seddon Memorial .Technical Collogo was thrown open to parents and visitors yesterday when tho annual open day of tho college was hold. Tho workshops, laboratories and classrooms wero inspected by large numbers of visitors throughout tho day. Special attention was attracted by a display of flowers and produce arranged by the pupils in the college hall. Over 900 entries of flowers, fruit and vegetables, all by pupils, wero exhibited in this comprehensive show, the aim of which was to provide parents and friends with an idea of the work dlono by agricultural students of the college. Pressed collections of clovers, grasses and weeds were tho object of attention and received a certificate of merit from the Auckland Horticultural Society. Tho society presented a further certificate for a collection of named native foliage. A number of pots of beautiful primulas were provided for the stage of tho hall by the Auckland City Council. 1 ■' ■ Originality of execution was shown by some fine novel tables, which were a feature of tho display. Poultry and horticultural exhibits from tho college farm at Remuera were also the object of much admiration. It was estimated that moro than 2000 people inspected the show during tho day. An agricultural science display was arranged in one of tho classrooms, tho exhibits covering such topics as th? testing of milk and butter, tho purity of milk, fertilisers, soils iind principles °* Displays' of the work done by pupils were arranged in tho various departments and wero inspected by a largo number of parents and other visitors.
