WOMEN'S DIVISION
Pukekohe East.—There were many visitors from neighbouring branches at the fifth birthday celebrations recently. The birthday cake was made by the secretary, Mrs. Williams, and her mother, Mrs. Barclay. Items were presented by Mrs. Grubb, Mrs. Coutts, Mrs. Twydale, Mrs. Tenner, Mrs. W. Hongan, Miss Robinson, Miss F. Mahoney, Miss Johnston and Dawn Lowry v A short address was given by Mrs. Noel Adams. Afternoon tea was served. Western Group.—The quarterly meeting of the western group of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held recently at Pukekohe. Mrs. R. C. Clark presided. Representatives were present from Pukekohe, Pukekohe East, Puni, Paerata and "Waiau Pa. It was decided to ask Mrs. Bloodworth to address the next meeting of the group on child welfare work, and also to give a donation from the group funds to the Maori Girls' School at Epsom. A discussion on the educational work of the branches took place, and Mrs. Preece reported on the welfare work. The hostesses were the members of the Puni branch. Waiteitei. —Mrs. L. Barker presided at the monthly meeting of the branch. Results of tho competitions were as follows: —Vase of flowers: Mrs. J. Sands, 1; Mrs. E. A. Sheldon, 2; Mrs. L. Barker, 3. Arrangement of vase of flowers: Miss F. Bradley, 1. Club prize: Mrs. Hensen. The hostesses were Mrs. T. Duck and Mrs. E. A. Sheldon. Mangatangi.—A dressmaking scheme was discussed at the monthly meeting of tho branch, at which Mrs. Holder presided. A treasure hunt was won by Mrs. Bunn and Miss D. Chipman. Other winners of competitions were Mrs. F. Parker, Mrs. Henson, Mrs. J. Cummings, Mrs. H. Holder and Mrs. C. McClusky. Waikoukou.—First aid lectures were continued at tho monthly meeting, and approval was expressed of tho proposal for first aid in schools. Mrs. A. KerrTaylor presided, and birthday flowers were presented to Mrs. Alach. Mrs. N. Wilson was in charge of the trado table. Mrs. Kerr-Tavlor won tho flower competition, and the competition arranged by Mrs. Viycich was won by Mrs. Morgnn. Mrs. Cornwall gave an elocutionary item, and afternoon tea was served. . Puni. —The annual basaar was opened by Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P. for Franklin, and a short address was given by the president, Mrs. Gillanders. The stall holders were:—-Dips, Mrs. Tregoweth; cakes. Mrs. Hoe and Mrs, Jack; sewing, Mrs. McNeil and Mrs. Pntchard; produce, Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Preece; plants and flowers, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Tibbs; sweets. Mrs. Donelas and Mrs. McCarthy. Tho competitions resulted as follows: —Sponge, Miss P. Banks; doll, Master Ron Sandon; cake, Mrs. Gillon; guessing competition. Mrs. Tregowere; nail driving (ladies), Mrs. J. Hoo; nail driving (children), Lawrie O/Connor and Josto Hoe. The hostesses were Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Silva.
