FRANKTON JUNCTION
BEAUTIFYING PLANS RAILWAY STATION ENVIRONS [from ovb own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday With a view to beautifying the Frankton Junction railway station, work will be commenced shortly on improving the approaches and environs. This decision follows a discussion between Mr. W. G. Stewart, stationmaster at Frankton Junction, and Mr. W. H. Paul, president of the Hamilton Beautifying Society. The society has already carried out a great deal of work at Frankton Junction, and the plans now being considered will add materially to the attractiveness of the station.
An untidy section in Commerce Street, on which the Railway Institute Social Hall is built, is to be cleared and lawns and shrubs planted. The strip of land along High Street at the entrance to the overhead bridge, which is at present overgrown with long grass, also is to be planted in lawns and flowers.
With the object of improving visibility for night work, another large steel tower, equipped with two powerful searchlights, is to be erected shortly.
