VICE-REGAL PARTY
GARDEN SOCIETY MEMBERS FUNCTION AT WELLINGTON Members of the New Zealand Alpine and Hock Garden Society in Wellington, who recently entertained the Gov-ernor-General, Viscount Gal way, and \ iscount Galway on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the foundinn of the society were entertained by Their Excellencies in turn last week.
The guests were received in the drawing room at Government House and later morning tea was served in the dining room.
The guests included Mr. Hope Gibbons, president of the New Zealand Alpine and Hock Garden Society; Mr. T. \V. Atwood, director of the society; Mr. E. J. Righton and Mr. O. Dryden, vice-presidents; and the following members of the council: Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Gordon, Mrs. A. 1?. Gower, Mr. G. P. Anderson and Mr. E. Hutt. Others present were Mrs. Knox Gilmer. Mr. W. Smith. Mr. D. A. Ewen and Mrs. E. .1, Righton.
Their Excellencies afterward conducted their guests round the grounds. The chief attraction was an extensive rock garden which Lord Galwav had constructed during Lady Galway's absence in England last year. The rock-garden is of His Excellency's own design, and embraces waterfalls, lily ponds and winding stone paths. A feature of the garden is its conformity to the natural habitat of the rock plants.
