OVER £1290 RAISED
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE GENEROUS PUBLIC SUPPORT ASSOCIATION'S GRATITUDE Appreciation by the public of the work of the St. John Ambulance Association in Auckland was shown yesterday in the generous support accorded the street appeal. The amount received up to last night was £1293 13s, but this will be augmented by collections at Otahuhu, Manurewa and Mount Eden, these returns not yet having come to hand. Last year's collection totalled £llOO. "The appeal was most satisfactory, and when the final returns are received the total amount will probably be over £'2oo in excess of last year," said Mr. S. E. Langstone, secretarymanager of the association. "Through circumstances over which we had no control we spent over £7OO in excess of our income last year, but it is extremely gratifying to know that we have the confidence of the public. "In addition to the public." said Mr. Langstone, "I would like to convey the association's warmest thanks to all those who assisted in the collection, and to the officers on the Auckland Transport Board's revenue staff who did the counting. Five officers did this in three hours —a wonderful achievement."
