NEW BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION IN SUVA BANK OF NEW SOUTH WALES MANY MODERN FEATURES [from our own correspondent] SUVA, Oct. 25 Work on the erection of new buildings for the Bank of New South Wales in Suva has now commenced and an inspection of the plans reveals that when completed it will be one of Sura's finest buildings. The building, designed in the modern style of architecture, relieved by 'ornamental panels and fluted pilasters, is to be constructed of reinforced con> crete on pile foundations, the external elevations being finished with tinted cement and a glazed terra cotta base course. The public accommodation in the building will be very commodious, a special feature being the travel department. where every possible convenience has been provided for the use of the public. banking premises will occupy the whole of the ground floor, together with a portion of the first floor. The remaining first floor area of over 5000 square feet, will be divided into offices to be let to tenants. The contract for the manufacture and driving of the piles for the foundations has been let to the Whan Construction Co., Ltd., of Suva, and the erection of the superstructure will be carried out by Alex Speers and Sons Pty., Ltd., of Sydney. The . designing architects for the building are Messrs. Louis S. Robertson and Son, of Sydney, while the supervising architect is Mr. W. F. Hedges, A.R.1.8.A., of Suva, who is also the architect for the new Government buildings in Suva.
