POPULARITY OF BOWLS
GAME IN UNITED STATES AUCKLAND PLAYER'S RETURN The increasing popularity of the game of bowls in the United States was commented upon by Mr. W. J. Truscott, president of the Auckland Bowling Centre, on his return by the Monterey yesterday from a combined business and holiday visit to America. This was particularly evident, he Said, in California, where the game had made great progress in the past few y6 The Californian Bowling Association was holding a big tournament next vear on the occasion of -the San Francisco Exposition, Mr. Truscott said. He had met the president and members of the executive of the association, who were looking forward keenly to the tournament, in which they expected bowlers from New Zealand, Australia and England to take part. While he was not able to say whether the New Zealand Bowling Centre would send a team, Mr. Truscott thought it likely that players from the Dominion would be present. During an absence of 10 weeks, Mr. Truscott. who was accompanied by his wife, visited tourist resorts and other centres in the "United States and Canada.
