TE PUKE STATE HOUSES LOCAL BUILDERS TOO BUSY COUNCIL'S ASSISTANCE SOUGHT [by telegraph —OWN- correspondent] TE PUKE, Friday No tenders have been received for the State houses to be erected in To Puke, according to advice received from the Housing Department at the monthly meeting of tho Te Puke Borough Council. The co-operation of the council was sought in finding builders likely to tender. "I have to advise you that when tenders for the erection of five houses in Te Puke were advertised recently not a single tender was forthcoming," stated Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in charge of Housing. "My department is, however, endeavouring to secure a satisfactory tender." Mr. A. Tyndall, director of housing construction, wrote at a later date w ith the suggestion that the council could place the department in touch with local contractors who would be prepared to Bubmit tenders for one or more houses. * . , , Mr. J. T. Eccleton said that he knew of one builder who would probably take a contract for one house. Local builders had been too busy to iindertake five houses. The council referred the matter to Mr. Eccleton.

CONTRACTS APPROVED CONSTRUCTION AT AUCKLAND [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The Parliamentary Under-Secretary in charge of Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee, announced to-day the following contracts for house construction which have been approved by the Cabinet:— Dargaville: One two-house unit and four single-house units, L._ R. Rope. Auckland: Single-house units at St. Heliers, C. P. Hine; two-house unit and single-house units at Point Chevalier, J. A. Bird; single-house unit at Avondale, R. Stansell.
