GERMANY AND POLAND CONSIDERATION IN WARSAW EXTENSION OF PREVIOUS PACT DANZIG QUESTION CONCERNED By Telegraph—Frcss Association —Copyright LONDON, Oct. 23 A new agreement between Germany and Poland is under consideration, based on the pact of 1934, which renounced war for 10 years, according to the Warsaw correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. The intention seems to be to extend the pact beyond 1944. It is understood that doubts about Danzig will bo clarified. It is revealed that tlie Polish Foreign Minister, Colonel Heck, has asked King Carol for an assurance that Rumania will remain neutral in the event of a conflict over the further dismemberment of Czechoslovakia. The new Czech frontier proposals have been considered by the Hungarian Cabinet, states a message from Budapest. A reply was later sent to Prague admitting that the latest Czech proposals have improved, but are stil! unacceptable because there is no mention of self-determination for the Slovaks and Ruthenians, although the Hungarian ethnological claims are partially conceded. It is complained that the Czech proposals mean the retention of cities of large Hungarian populations in Czechoslovakia.

RUMANIA'S ATTITUDE LESS FAITII IN FRANCE RELATIONS WITH BRITAIN KING CAROL'S LONDON VISIT LONDON, Oct. 23 Rumanian officials in Paris state, according to the correspondent of the Australian Associated Press, that King Carol, d uring his visit to London, will tell Britain that Rumania is not pre-

pared any longer to pin her faith on France, and therefore she is ready for closer co-operation with Britain. The Rumanian Minister in Paris, M. Cesianu, told the French Foreign Minister, M. Bonnet, that Rumania was strongly opposed to the partition of sub-Carpathia because she feared that this would arouse the question of Bulgarian and Hungarian minorities in Rumania.

King Carol is reported to bo engineering a Cabinet change. Patriarch Miron Christea is expected to be succeeded as Prime Minister by M. Vnida Veovod, one of King Carol's most intimate advisers. Since last March, King Carol has been virtual dictator of Rumania. Like Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, her partners in the Little Entente, Rumania will probably cease to oppose Hitler's plans. FRENCH DEFENCES WORKERS' EXTRA HOURS ALTERNATIVE PENALTIES (Received October 21, 0 p.m.) PARIS, Oct. 23 Tlie Council of Ministers has decided to inflict penalties on workers who refuse to work extra hours in the defence industries. It is understood that these penalties range from dismissal to imprisonment.

MILITARY SERVICE EVASIONS IN FRANCE ATHLETES AND FOOTBALLERS LONDON. Oct. 17 Arrests at Marseilles for avoiding military service have revealed that champion athletes and footballers were exempted because of "weak hearts and inability to take violent exercise." It is alleged that 2000 were thus declared unfit because of the influence of politicians, directors and professional football clubs. The French international footballer, Bonall, was charged with having obtained an exemption with a forged medical certificate. He recently transferred from the Marseilles Olympic Club to the Racing Club de Paris, for a fee of £'looo. But he alleged that ho possessed a certificate saying lie had a weak heart.
