TROUT FISHING
NEW LICENCE FEES THE AUCKLAND SOCIETY REGULATIONS GAZETTED A new scale of fees for trout-fishing licences is contained in an amendment to the Trout-fishing (Auckland) Regulations, 1937, announced in an Order-in-Council recently gazetted. Some of the clauses of the regulations are also added to or altered, but the changes are only technical. "Until 1935 there was a whole-season licence fee of £1 throughout New Zealand, except in Rotorua and Taupo," said Mr. F. E. McKenzie, president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, yesterday. "In 1936 this licence fee was increased to 255, of which 10 per cent was taken by the Marine department for the fresh water fish research scheme. In 1936 an amendment to the Fisheries Act was passed which allowed something in the nature of district licence fees."
Mr. McKenzie added that it was recognised that some societies were spending more money than others in hatchery work and on holding and rearing fingerlings. For instance, last year the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was successful in liberating nearly 500,000 fingerling trout, some of which were well-grown fish. To cover this added cost the society was allowed to increase the whole-season men's fishing licence to 30s. \
The following is the new schedule of licence fees for the Auckland district: —Whole season (available throughout New Zealand, except Rotorua and Taupo), men, £1 10s; women, 9s; juniors, 6s. Weekly, men, 9s; women and juniors, 6s. Day, 3s for all licences.
