MUNGA TANGI IN FORM KEWPIE'S ' CREST IMPROVES ROSALIE SHOWS PROMISE t TROTTERS PERFORM SOUNDLY

Although heavy rain made the dirt track dead at Epsom yesterday, good times were registered, Kewpie's Crest, Fernbrook Lass and Munga Tangi, 1.8, sharing the honours for half a mile. Kewpie's Queen, 1.8 2-5, and Petite Jewel, 1.8 3-5, also did well while sound efforts were those of Rosalie and Kewpie's Triumph, 1.9, Bedford, Post Haste and Tommy McElwyn, 1.9 3-5. Kewpie's Crest (J. Gee) left the mile and a-half three seconds after liosalie (K. Bell) and Kewpie's Queen (W. Gee), but he had made up much of his handicap as the front pair passed the mile disc in 2.29. In the run home Kewpie's Queen just held off Kewpie's Crest to record 3.37 2-5. In going 3.34 3-5 Kewpie's Crest showed improvement on several recent efforts, and did his work more solidly. Rosalie, who was on the outside most of the way, was responsible for a pleasing trial in 3.38. Fisher (A. Paton), led Bedford (D. Smith) to the mile in 2.27 3-5, but the latter, although tiring, took the leader's measure in the run home and won in 3.27, a fine effort for the track, The.y went fast in the middle stages, cutting out six furlongs in 1.40. The last mile and a-quarter took 2.50. Pink Lady (B. Dyer) gradually increased speed over a two-mile journey, to run the last half in 1.15. She trotted soundly and has never before been in such good condition. Test for Stayers

i Petite Jewel (W. H. Andrews) went away a few - lengths ahead of Munga Tangi (L. Laver) and Fernbrook Lass (C. M. Morrison) from the two miles, and was slightly in front at the mile and a-half in 3.32. Petite Jewel left his feet at the top. Munga Tangi and Fernbrook' Lass finished on terms, in 4.40. ' Petite Jewel also performed creditably and is a good stayer. Lucky Love (D. Cook) was not taxed in running two miles at a 2.32 rate, each half in 1.16. He sharpened with his race last Saturday. Young Ilodney (L. Laver) trotted the last mile of two miles in 2.27, to register 1.12 in the final section. He is making improvement. Great Sonoma (C. M. Morrison) , trotted two miles evenly at a 2.33 rate. No fault can be found with his condition.

Auto Bingen (G. H. Phipps) and Don Walla (N. Cunningham) were not hurried while going a mile and aquarter in 3.13. Auto Binge# is a fresh youngster and is not being: bustled.

Vanora (L. J. Mahoney) who ws».a unhoppled, and Gav Moko (J. Mahoney) worked a mile and a-quarter at a 2.30 rate. Gay Moko trotting the last half in 1.13 2-'5 and showing solidness. Yanora has furnished into a useful type. Two miles, free-legged, was the portion of Noble Prince (J. McKendrick) and he ran 5.0, each half in 1.15. Sprinting an extra three furlongs, his went 525. Post Haste Progressing Post Haste (L. J. Mahoney) led from the mile and a-quarter from Tommy McElwyn (A. McKenzie) and was in front all the way in 2.58. Post Haste paced resolutely and both are in condition and track work is progressing. Tommy McElwyn idled in the early stages, but came home the last mile well in 2.21.

Bismuth (J. E. Taylor) assisted part of the way by Gold Kip (C. M. Morrison) worked two miles unhoppled, the last nine furlongs at a 2.26 rate. He is in excellent heart, but has reached a difficult handicap. Gold Kip trotted an extra six furlongs in 1.52. Dick Redmond (A. Paton)_ trotted a mile and a-half in 3.47, coming home the last half in 1.12 3-5. Pukemrro (W. .Fleming) ran the last nine furlongs of a mile and a-half at a 2.24 rate. Fleming has taken in hand a two-year-old by Auto Machine from Nellota. Princess Linnett (J. McKendrick)] paced neatly when running along several furlongs. She is a shapely filly by Ringtrue from the troting mare Linnett the Great. • . On the sand Pirate's Last. (JMahoney)' trotted a mile* aitff'. a-half soundly. He has recovered from the slight injury which put him out of action after the last meeting, v v . r Bingen Sun (W. Head) trotted two miles but was not doing his best. The limit of the event was 3.27, and the first and second horses were on the front/ line, Main Derby : going 3.21 J. Logan, Derby finished fourth, off 72 yards, while Lawn Derby, who won the race last year, was unplaced off 120 yards. O'Shea intends to race Springfield Globe and Lawn Derby at the Auckland' summer meeting, where Logan Derby may'also appear. If the programme is carried out the horses will be at Epsom some time before the meeting, and there is a chance of Lawn Derby and Nervie's Last givinga freelegged exhibition Vat the, Waikato summer meeting.
