SOUND EFFORT

BOUND BY MALAGIGI WHIRLING DISPLAYS DASH i ROYAL BACHELOR VERY FIT [by correspondent] ■ HAMILTON, Thnrsday Several interesting trials were recorded at Te Rapa this morning, the outstanding effort being a round by Malagigi, who drew pointed attention to his Mitchelson Cup prospects. The going on the course proper, 30ft. out from the rails, was in excellent order, in spite of the unpleasant conditions that prevailed. Whirling (Brady) was doing better than the two-year-old Beaiu. Repaire (Goulsbro) at the end. of three furlongs in 38 2-ss. Whirling is bearing a robust appearance and may need racing to bring him to his best; Mangukaha (Goulsbro), accompanied by the two-year-old Classic (McKenzie),; ran a smart three furlongs in 37 l-ss. Both did their work well. Royal Bachelor (Brady) strode over a round, coming home the final five furlongs in 1.11. He looks well and, as ho has been bitting out attractively, ho may make amends on Saturday for his Avondale failure. : < .

Malagigi (McKenzie), with, the assistance of Dark Shadow (O'Zanne), negotiated' a round in 2.2 4-5. Malagigi was clear of his companion at the end after running ; the first three furlongs in 38 2-5, four in 53 l-ss, five in 1.6 4-5, and six in 1.20. Malagigi had his tongue over the bit at the end but went impressively. Philemup (Gilmer) and Queen Lu (11. E. Thomson) were associated over a round, running home the final five furlongs in , 1.10. ' Philemup lookß greatly improved and may race on the second day. at Ellerslie. Sinking Fund (Day) and Latour's Last ' (Telford) were schooled over one hurdle and negotiated it safely, although they failed to jump with any dash.' • Wrackle was galloped half a mile-on the No. 2. grass 1
