DEMAND FROM LABOURERS [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Thursday An intimation Has been given to members of the Hawke's Bay Buildeis and General Labourers' Union employed bv the Hastings Borough Council'that they have to pay their next year's union' membership subscription by October 17.- The union recently amended its rules regarding the payment of dues, Instead of being required quarterly they are now to bo paid yearly in advance.

According to information given to tho Borough Council, unless tHe subscriptions arc paid •by the men by October 17 the council will be liable to prosecution for employing nonuniotaistsr.
