SCHOOL STEEPLECHASE

AT KING'S COLLEGE * GOOD TIME BY COLEMAN ":'V. \ A strong and chilly wind faced the runners who started in the King's College annual steeplechase, held yesterday; over separate courses for seniors and juniors. The event was contested; on a house system, eight runners representing the four "houses of the school. , . The senior honours were von by the School Honse with 42 points, the other placing being: Town, 66; St. John's, 89; Parneli, 122. In the junior event St.' John's House won with 60 points) the next, two houses'to complete the course being: Parneli, 67; Town, 107.

The seniors ran over the nsnal course of five and. three-quarter miles by way of Grey -Avenue,/ Portage Road,- across country to Hen wood, Road and returning by Massey Hoad to finish at the college grounds. The fastest time was registered oy Coleman (St. John's) in 36m 34 3-ss, The recordjs 34m -12s, established in 1928 by R. H. Browne. The junior course of two and a-hajf miles was up Mangere Road, through the Otahuhu Technical High School playing fields to the college grounds, and it included several side ditches and hurdles. - Cooper, Rollo and Seton. who were the first three to finish, in that order, ran together for most of the course, with another bunch of runuers about 30yds behind making strong' challenges at several points. Over the lust stages Foreman joined the leaders, who made a fine showing on the run home, Cooper finishing only twofifths of a second ahead of Rollo, with Seton a few feet further back.
