The inimitable English actress Gracie Fields, makes her first appearance in American films and gives a talented performance as an Australian music hall entertainer. • Other? roles are' taken by Victor'^McLaglen,. as the carefree husband of the singer, Brian Donlevy and Coral Sisowne. Kit (Miss.Fields) is a retX .populw performer, in -Melbourne music halls "about the year ISBO and the picture opens with Kit making her farewell appearance, prior to sailing for Capetown with her husband Dobbie (McLaglen). When their steamer arrives in South Africa, Dobbio announces that lie has invested all their savings in a gold mine,, but they discover they have been swindled. A riot breaks out and Dobbie is sent to prison for six weeks, leaving Kit to earn her own living. She is employed in a dance-hall owned by a gambler Yankee Gordon (Donlevv). who falls in love with his talented singer. Gordon attempts to ridicule Dobbie by staging a boxing bbut hall, but, although Dobbie ;i»'badly beaten, the fight is stopped when hews of a gold rush is brought, to the town. The singer and her husband embark on a steamer for England and the picture is brought to an unusual conclusion.
