ALLEGED TEXAS CRIMES BODY FED TO ALLIGATORS YOUNG WOMEN MISSING (Receivod October 4, 10.50 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 A gruesome story of the alleged feeding of a young white woman to five pet alligators was told to Texas Rangers at San Antonio, investigating the disappearances of girls who were working for Joe Ball at, his roadhouse on the edge of the desert. Ball, who had been three times married, shot himself- a week ago when officers arrived to ques« tion him. A negro later admitted that he had helped Ball to dismember the body of Minnie Gotthardt and bury the remains in the sand dunes. \ The body of Hazel, Brown was found in a shallow grave near by. ' The rangers are at present seeking Betty Wendell. The inquiries have revealed that a number of others disappeared, some after visiting maternity homes. The local police to-day undertook, provided the rangers promised protection, to produce a witness who alleges he surprised Ball? carrying a body from the rear of the roadhouse to a concrete alligatdr pit. Ball, according to the police, drew a gun and told the man to "beat it." The alligators are one of the roadhouse's attractions.
