CITY OF LONDON SIR FRANK BOWATER ELECTED (Received September 30, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 29 The election is announced of Sir Frank Bowater as Lord Mayor of London. • Major Sir Frank H. Bowater, a partner in the newsprint firm of W. V. Bowater and Sons, succeeds Sir Harry Twyford, who for some years lived in New Zealand. The new Lord Mayor is one of His Majesty's Lieutenants of the City of London. He was Sherriff of London in 1929-30 and a member of the London County Council from 1934 to 1937. He commanded a battery in France during the war. His elder brother, Sir T. Vansittart Bowater, was Lord Mayor of London in 1913-14.
