NEW SHOWGROUND
PROPOSAL, AT WHANGAREI STATE ASSISTANCE SOUGHT The Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society have in view the establishment of a new showground and winter show buildings with grounds for various sports on an area of reclaimed land that is being leased by the society from the Whangarei Harbour Board. 'The area is 16 acres in "extent and it is situated; close;" to tho business section of the'town." "" ,• The society approached the Hon. W. Nash, Minister - of Finance,. ;he was in Whangarei with the request that assistance be forthcoming from 'the Government for tho work of pre•paring the ground erecting the .necessary buildings. Tho Minister promised that/ the request would be fully' investigated, by tho . Govern.meiit. The society is also seeking the support of the various sports organisations, in the district and) has .already approached the Cricket Association and •' the Tennis Association with the view of those bodies making the proposed iiew grounds the. headquarters for these sports in Whangarei.
