USE OF GOLF CLUBS

RESTRICTION UPON NUMBER CONTROLLING BODY'S ACTION (Received September 28, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 28 Tho Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew's lias decided to restrict the number of clubs a player may carrv to 14. Tlio question of the number of clubs a golfer should bo permitted to carry arose early last year after Lawson Little, of the United States, had won the British open championship. The American on that occasion had 22 clubs in his bag. The United States Golf Association held a meeting for the purpose of restricting the number of clubs, but after a great deal of discussion tho hope was expressed that players would employ a "reasonable number of clubs." The proposal to restrict tho number of clubs used in matches to 14 was defeated at a meeting in May last year of the Royal and Ancient Club owing to the failure to secure a two-thirds majority. In the following month the United States Golf Association decided to restrict the number to 14.
