MAYFAIR THEATRE Tlio French actress Simone Simon takes the principal role in the comedy " Josette," which will continue its season at the Mayfair Theatre to-day. iss Simon appears as a young girl without any theatrical cxjjericnce who (becomes a cabaret entertainer and finally succeeds in producing a spectacular show. Other roles in the lilm are taken by Don Ameche, Robert Young, Bert Lalir ami Joan Davis. MAJESTIC THEATRE Ihe bright musical comedy " College Swing " will continue its season at the Majestic Theatre to-day, A fine cast, headed by George Burns, Gracie Allen, Jacky Coogan and Betty (Jrubje, takes j>art in the film. Ihe second attraction is the screen adaptation of a novel ]'. v "Sapper," "Bulldog Dninuiioud's ] eril, ' the plot of which is connected with nn attempt by a scientist to make synthetic diamonds. The chief roles are taken "by John Barrymore, Louise Campbell and .Reginald'Denny. CIVIC THEATRE The miseries inflicted on the Spanish people by the conflict between the Loyalists and Rebels are depicted in the Walter Wanger production "Blockade," which will continue its season at the Civic Theatre to-day. Fine performances are given by Madeleine Carroll and Henrv Fonda in the principal roles, while the supporting cast includes Leo Carrillo, John Ilallidav and Reginald Denny. Items by IVmi Hughes on the Wurlitzer organ are a feature of tlio associate programme. REGENT THEATRE A newcomer to American films, Danielle Dnrricux, gives a splendid performance in the modern coined v "The Rage of Paris," which will be shown at the Regent Theatre to-day. Miss Darrieux appears as a young French girl attempting to obtain a modelling position in New York. A former stage actress (Helen Broderick) takes charge of her and decides to discover a. rich husband for her protegee. Tlio proposed victim is portrayed InLouis Hayward, and Douglas' Fairbanks, jim., appears as the friend who tries to help Hayward escape from the fortune-hunting adventuress. STATE THEATRE With an outstanding cast, including Robert Taylor, Maureen O'Sullivan, Griffith Jones and Vivien Leigh, the first Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr film to lie made in England, "A Yank at Oxford," will continue its season at the State Theatre to-night. Taylor is cast as an undergraduate from a small American university who comes to Oxford and proceeds to show his contempt for the traditions and customs of tlio great English seat of learning. Interesting supporting features will also be shown. STRAND THEATRE Musical comedy is seen at its best in "Sally, Irene and Mary," which will be presented at the Strand Theatre today. A number of new songs are introduced and are heard to advantage when sung by Alice Faye and Tony Martin. Other players include Joan Davis, Marjorie Weaver and Jimmy Durante. The second attraction is the exciting film "Tarzan's Revenge." In a stirring jungle story Tarzan is seen in many thrilling adventures, including battles between hostile tribes and a strugglo for life in a pool of crocodiles. TIVOLI THEATRE Guest-night concessions will be available for patrons of the Tivoli Theatre to-night, when an entertaining double-feature programme will be presented. Florence Rice and Robert Allen give good performances in the stirring drama "Guard That Girl," while Margaret Lindsay, Arthur Treacher and Anita Louise? have the principal roles in " Personal Maid's Secret." An interesting associate programme includes a "Three Stooges " comedy, "Three Little Deers," a cartoon, " Scrappy's Boy Scouts." and a two-reel comedy, " Oh, My Nerves." EMBASSY THEATRE The entertaining comedy "Merrily We Live" will continue the ■■sixth week of its season at the Embassy Theatre today. Amusing performances aro given by a cast which includes Constance Bennett, Brian Aherne and Billie Burke. The associate features include one of the "Crime Doesn't Pay" series and a Fitzpatrick travelogue. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO Jack Holt appears in the drama "Blind Alibi," to be presented to patrons of the Crystal Palace and Rialto Theatres to-night. The associate attraction is the comedy "A Trip to Paris." LONDON CINEMA The film "Poppy" is the chief attraction to be presented at the London Cinema to-day. The •well-balanced programme includes the production "Calling the Tune." fUDOR CINEMA Adapted from the popular novel by Rider Haggard, the film "King Solomon's Mines" is to be shown at the Tudor Cinema to-night. The comprehensive programme includes topical newsreels. PRINCE EDWARD THEATRE A splendid double-feature programme has been arranged at the Princo Edward Theatre to-night, when the tense drama " Woman Wanted " and " The Three Godfathers " will be presented. News reels will completo an enjoyable entertainment.
ST. JAMES' THEATRE Musical entertainment for all tastes is provided in "Everybody Sing," the current attraction at .St. James' Theatre. The iillo tenor voice of Allan .Jones is heard in a number of songs, while the young actress Judy Garland is also prominently cast. Miss Garland appears as a pupil at a girls' school with a fascination for "swing" music and the story continues when she is expelled from school and attempts to produce a- musical revue. STAR THEATRE, PAPAKURA In conjunction with the iilm "Trailing the Killer." to be shown at the Star Theatre, Papakura, to-night, the dog Caesar will appear on the stage. The associate attraction is the production "Yellowstone." ASTOR THEATRE Deanna Diirbin is prominently east in the film "Mad About Music," to be shown at the Astor Theatre to-night. The second attraction is the production "Adventure's End." BERKELEY, MISSION BAY 1 x>o Carrillo is prominently cast in ;he stirring tilm " The Barrier," which will be shown at the Berkeley Theatre, Mission Bay, to-night. Excellent associate features will also be presented.
