ROYAL AKARANA CLUB SUCCESS IN PAST SEASON SOUND FINANCIAL CONDITION Unparalleled success in the racing and cruising programmo of the past season, a largo increase in membership and in tho numbers of new craft, and a very satisfactory financial position were features of the report presented at the annual meeting of the IJoyal Akarana Yacht Club. The commodore, Mr. T. McKnight, presided over a fair attendance of members. Tho incrcaso in popularity of ocean cruising was the subject of special comment. It was stated that tho Royal Akarana Club had established a record in this sphere of yachting that was almost unequalled in any part of tho world. Congratulations wcro extended to Mr. W, Rogers on tho winning for tho club of tho Australian J -If t. yacht championship with his T class boat Vamp.
Prize-money for all racos during tho season was considerably increased and record mitries wcro received. Cruising races wero particularly popular. Tho social side of tho club was well organised. Facilities at tho clubhouse wero further improved by additions for the convcnienco of members and officers and during the forthcoming season it is intended to provido accommodation for approximately 000 persons at club functions.
The finances of the club wcro reported to be in a sound condition. After,-starting tho year with a debit balance, prizes wero increased, expenses for additions to the clubhouse were paid, debentures wcro redeemed nnd the year was concluded with a credit h&lance of £47. Tho principal items of revenue were £'24l from locker rents, £llß from subscriptions, £.~>o from entrance fees, and £lO from donations. Prizo money amounting to £IOO was the main item on the debit side, while clubhouse maintenance amounted to £SO and rates, insurance, etc., to £2<l. •On the motion of Mr. McKnight, tho report and balance-sheet wcro adopted. Mr. McKnight said it was extremely gratifying to find (he club in so satisfactory a position.
Tho following officers were elected:—President. Mr. L. Heard; commodore, Mr. "W. Curtis; vice-commodore, Mr. E. Edgecumbe; rear-commodore, Mr. FT. Hill; lion, secretary and treasurer. Mr. J. Moon; hon. racing secretary, Mr. E. S. Brookes; committee. Licutemmt-Commandor )E. W. Monckton, R.N.. Messrs. S. Carter, G. Pearson, ■l?.' H. Wood, C. Power, W. Kennedy. W. Burns, P. Spraggon, .A. Otto, G, .Insloy, K. W. Aimer, iA. W. Bono; hon. chaplain, I?cv. Jaspet Calder; hon. architect, Mr. Howard Patterson; supervisor at Judge's Bny Beach, Mr. A. W. Bone; delegates to tho Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat .Association, Messrs. H. Hill and E. S. Brookes. Mention was made of the deaths' of Mr. George Warman and Miss E. Gordon. In recognition of outstanding services performed over a long period as an officer of the club, tho presentation of a tobacco pouch, suitably inscribed, was made to Mr. H. Howell. The retiring commodore, Mr. T. McKnight, was elected a life member of tho club.
