Illimani fell at the lirst hurdle, where Simint and Te Monatekapa were the leaders from Flash By Queen Lu, Erination and Golden Spahi. Chikara fell at the second hurdle and Queen Lu fell at the hurdle by the five furlongs, where Simint led by three lengths from Te Monatekapa. jumped the last hurdle just ahead of le Monatekapa, with Erination moving up on the outside. In the run to the judge Je Monatekapa finished best to beat Simint by a neck, Erination being a length away third. Car wa^ fourth, followed by Electric I lash and Flash By. Time, 2m 51 3-os.

The order into the straight was the same, excepting that Philcoiirt had improved his position. Half a furlong from home Royal Bachelor still held the lead, but mediately he was overwhelmed by Krndale. Maori Song and Philcoiirt, who fought out the finish for Krndale to win by a short neck.
