VISIT BY SYDNEY BOATS CONTESTS IN FEBRUARY NEXT Arrangements for the visit of four Sydney 18-footers to Auckland in February next have been finalised by a committee of yachtsmen representing the majority of the local yacht clubs.

The boats, with 32 of their crew and eight officials, will arrive by the Awatea on Friday, February 10, and the boats will be housed at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club's premises. A series of three championship races has been arranged for Saturday, February 11, Wednesday, February 15, and Saturday, February IS, for a cup or other trophy and £SO. The race will be decided in three heats on a points system. . ' „ , Club races will also bo hold on February 12 by the Point Chevalier Sailing Club and on February 19 by the Tamaki Yacht Club. Mr. G. M. Dennes has been elected chairman of the committee controlling the races, Mr. G. McKeown vice-chairman," Mr. T. McKnight secretary, and Mr. J. Douglas treasurer.

PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB

SUCCESSFUL PAST SEASON A year of progress was revealed in the report presented at the annual meeting of the Ponsonby Cruising Club last night. Mr. H. R. -Arthur presided and there was a good attendance of members. The club, the report stated, was now enjoying the second year on the new site and the additional lockers installed in conjunction with the removal had been a - decided asset in increasing the revenue of the club. All the lockers were in use and there was a demand for more accommodation. The club was indebted to Mr. G. Robertson for the care and attention he had given his duties as locker steward and clubhouse captain. Five days were devoted to racing during the season, the entries totalling 40G. A feature was the club regatta, no' fewer than 103 boats taking part in the fixture. The annual inter-club contest for the'Lipton Cup for L class boats brought out a very large field, the trophy being won by the Tamariki, representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. The club was represented at tho Paremata Boating Club's regatta by the Y class boat Mania, which won the McKenzie Cup and also tho banner for the fastest timo. As the outcome of the visit, it was the intention of tho Paremata Club to send a representative to Auckland this season to compete at one of the Ponsonby. Club s most important fixtures. The prize money was fairly evenly distributed among the boats of tho various classes and the committee desired to congratulate the handicappers in bringing about such close finishes on corrected times. The thanks of the club were due to the president, Captain J. McKinnon, for placing his scow Rakiri at the disposal of the club on cap and regatta days. , The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £(jS on the year's workings. In moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman congratulated the club on its sound financial position and paid a tribute to the excellent services rendered by the commodore, Mr. J. J. McKay, and his officers and committee. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr. W. G. Winter; president, Captain J. McKiijnon; commodore, Mr. J. J. Mackay; vice-commodore, Mr. J. Lobley; rearcommodore, Mr. H. Tansloy; secretary, Mr. H. Claridge; treasurer, Mr. E. Ewan; hon. solicitor, Mr. L. G. Simpson; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Craig; hon. architect, Mr. R. L. Thorpe; clubhouse captain and locker steward, Mr. G. Robertson; assistant locker steward, Mr. W. Bush; committee, Messrs. Jl. Wilson, W. ITerdegcn, J. McKinnon, jun., R. Thompson, L. Cunningham. C. McDonald. W- Parkes. B. C.'oughlan. C. H. Leighton, J. Clark, M. Habittal, N. Mathcson. T. Quin. . Mr. C. Robertson, the retiring treasurer and a former secretary, was accorded a vote* of thanks for services rendered - during his term of office.
