THEFT FROM SHIP
MEAT CUT OFF CARCASE WATERSIDE WORKER FINED A charge of stealing a piece of pork valued at 2s from a carcase in tho hold of a ship during loading operations was admitted by a waterside worker, Albert Jennings*(Mr. Sullivan), before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday.
Sub-Inspector Fox said a constable accosted accused, who was carrying n bulky parcel of meat under his clothing, and ho admitted the theft. Subsequent police investigations resulted in tho damaged carcase being found in a ship's hold. Counsel submitted that accused yielded to sudden temptation, when he found that other meat had been cut from tho carcase. He had been severely punished on account of losing his employment on the waterfront for six months, and he had left Auckland to seek work elsewhere. His previous recard was unblemished. A fine of £5 was imposed.
