OFFICER FOR ENGLAND MAJOR DONALDSON CHOSEN
RELIEF FOR DUNTROON POST [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Under the policy of taking full advantage of the facilities which are available for the higher education of the Dominion's regular army officers, Major D. H. Donaldson, of the New Zealand Staff Corps, has been nominated to fill tho next vacancy allotted to New Zealand at the Staff College, Camberley, England. The duration of the course has recently been reduced from two years to one. After completing his term at Camberloy, Major Donaldson will spend two years alt the New College for higher training at Minlev Manor, near Aldershot.
Major Donaldson is at present adjutant and quartermaster-general in the Northern District. He will leave for England at the end of the year. Captain I. A. Claehan, New Zealand Staff Corps area officer at Hamilton, will go to Duntroon, Australia, late this year to relieve Captain (Local Major) J. I. Brooke, New Zealand Staff Corps. Captain Claehan will spend three years abroad.
Captain Claehan was at the Duntroon Military College until 1920, graduating as a lieutenant. He returned to New Zealand and was appointed to the New Zealand Staff Corps. He acted as area officer at Napier for four years, and later served at Dannevirke and Masterton as adjutant of the Wellington-East Coast Mounted Rifles. In 1926 lie went to India, where he served for two years with the Ist Battalion Wiltshire Regiment. On his return in 1928 he was appointed adjutant of the Waikato Mounted Rifles with headquarters in Hamilton. He then held the rank of captain.
