SPRING FLOWERS

WAITEMATA SHOW DISPLAY AT BIRKENHEAD THE PRINCIPAL AWARDS The third spring show of the Waitemata Horticultural Society, held in the Victoria Hall, Birkenhead, was opened by Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P., on Saturday. In spite of . the adverse weather for gardens, the show was most successful, the largo number of excellent daffodil blooms being a feature. The attractive Btaging of the exhibits made a spectacular display. The champion bloom in the show was the Incomparabilis daffodil Fortune, exhibited by Mrs. F. G. Blackwell, of Birkenhead, in the open class. Mr. W. G. Hoyle, of Papakura, again won the Farmers' Cup for highest points in daffodils in open competition, and Mrs. F. G. Blackwell won the points prize for daffodils in the amateur section.

The Leefe Native Flora Cup was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. J. Prickett, of Birkenhead, for a collection of 180 varieties of native flora, many of these being rare.

The judges were: —Mr. 11. L. Thornton, narcissi and native flora; Mr. George Mills, cut flowers, pot plants, fruit and vegetables; Mrs. Allred Bayly, decorative section.
