CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
METROPOLITAN. CLUB Tho Metropolitan Gun Club held its fortnightly shoot at Mangero. Two rounds of skeot wero fired, tho first round being a competition for a trophy donated by Mr. S. Woodroffo. The winner was J. Byrne, one of the club's junior members, who shot well above his averago to break IG, which, with his handicap of 8, totalled 2-1. Tho runnersup wero A. L. Byrno and A. E. Robinson, botli on scratch, with 22 breaks. 11. G. White was next highest, with a score of 19, 2—21. Mr. Woodroffo, tho donor of the trophy, actually secured second place with a card of 15, 8—23.
The top scores in tho second round were:— A. L. Byrno, 23; P. H. Seccombe, 21; A. E. Robinson, Hardy, 20; 11. H. Bartley, 19.
TAKAPUNA CLUB OPENING OF THE SEASON A large attendance of clay-bird shootera and visitors, including representatives of tba Auckland, Metropolitan, Kerepecbi and Roto* rua Gun Clubs, attended the official opening of the Takapuna Gun Club's season at its grounds, Barry's Point, Takapuna. Tho president, Mr. A. J. Hanigan, welcomed tho shooters, and visitors, and called upon Mr. T. Hollo, who deputised for tho Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, to officially open tho season. The popular club custodian, Mr. J. Henderson, son., fired tho first shot. Detailed results of the shoot were as follows: Seven-bird Eye-opener.—A. J. Hanigan (lliyds) shot the possible and won outright, tho first sweep money. L. P. Strain (I3.vds), A. Soniniervillo (12yds), E. C. Thomausen (14yds), and A. E. Montcith (14yds), shot six birds each for second sweep money. Seven-bird Handicap Match.—A. Sominerville (12yds), E. C. Thomansen (14yds), A. J. Hanigan (l(tyds), W. Turner (10yds), and L. £\ Strain (13yds), shot tho possible. R. Wallace (1 J yds). A. E. Montcith (14yds), and R. L. Baxter (l lyds), shot six birds each. President's Silver Cup Match, of 15 Birds.—A. J. Hanigau (lGyds). who presented tho trophy, was the oniy competitor to securo the possible of 15 birds, and won first sweep money. A. E. Montcith (1-lyds) and E. C. Thomansen (Myds), who shot .14 birds each, decided the trophy, and in tho shoot-off Montcith missed his 25th bird. Thomansen shot his 25th bird and won the trophy. L. P. Strain (13yds), shot 13 birds. W. Turner (lliyds) shot 12 birds. Sovon-bird G intern ck.—E. C. Thomansen (12-22 yds), A. J. Hanigan (14-24 yds), A. Sommerville (11-21 yds), L. L<\ Strain (12-22 yds), and 14. S. iMowbray (12-22 yds). shot six birds each. In the shoot-off for the sweep money' A. J. Hanigan won on the Uth bird.
Seven-bird Box Sweep, off 24yds.—W. Turner won outright tho first sweep money with six birds. A. E. Montcith, A. Sommervillo and A. J. Hanigan shot five birds each. Seven-bird Giuierack Sweep.—A. E Montcith (12-24.yds), won-outright the first sweep money with the possible. E. C. Thomanson (14-22 yds) and R. S. Mowbray (14-22 yds) each shot six birds for second sweep money.
