CHINESE VICTORY
CLATM FROM lIANKOW INVADERS' DRIVE STOPPED FIGHTING ON THE YANGTSE (Received August 10, 11.50 p.m.) LONDON, August 10 The Chinese claim to have completely shattered the Japanese advance on the south bank of the Yangtse east of Juichang, where tho Chinese are holding strong positions in thejiills, says a message from ITankow. The Japanese bombed Yangslii, and it is estimated that 500 people were killed and 800 wounded. A unit of White Russians is guarding the hunger-striking members of tho interned Chinese battalion at Shanghai. The officers have broken the strike, but the men are adamant, and the situation is tense.
