RELEASE REFUSED JAPANESE GUARD H.M.S. SCARAB LEAVES SUMMONS TO RESCUE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August 10, 11.50 p.m.) SHANGHAI, August. 10 Tho British -owned tug Victoria, which was seized by an armed Japanese guard at Tungchow Island yesterday, has still not been released, and tho Japanese naval authorities are sending a destroyer to investigate the occurrence. Tho watch being kept by IT.M.S. Scarab, the British gunboat which had been despatched to the scene to rescue the captain and demand the release of tin* lug, has been temporarily relin-
quished, the Scarab being called away to assist in the rescue of the passengers and crew of a German coasting vessel, the Hansa, which was sinking in the Wliangpoo Hirer after a collision during a hurricane with an anchored British steamer, the Tung Wo. It is beliwed 150 Chinese passengers on board the Hansa were drowned.
