TWO BOYS' ESCAPADE
POLICE PURSUIT EVADED WERAROA FARM TRAINEES RECAPTURE MADE LATER [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMER STON NORTH, Monday Two bovs who absconded from the Weraroa Boys' Training Farm on Friday morning converted to their use two cars from Levin and figured in an exciting chase before they were taken into custody. The boys were first missed from the institution about 8 a.m. and shortly after they were seen by a farm official at the Ohau Bridge, when they were travelling southward in a small saloon, owned by Mr. W. Jenson. The official notified the Otaki police and then proceeded by car in pursuit of the boys. The Otaki police were waiting at the Waitohu Bridge, but the boys observed tlio parked car before reaching that point and reversed their direction. The police gave chase, but failed to overtake the absconders by the time Ohau was reached. They were then compelled to return to Otaki. Later the stolen car was found abandoned by the Levin police. Apparently the boys made for the sandhills on the coast after leaving the car, but throughout the day they eluded the officials who were searching for them. A car belonging to the Rev. Dr. I. W. Fraser was removed from his garage in Makomako Iload,. Levin, on Friday night. The lads were later caught by the police.
