NO SUNDAY TENNIS
DECISION AT PAPATOETOE CLUB'S REQUEST REFUSED FORMER DECISION ENDORSED A request for permission to play tennis on Sundays was declined at the Papatoetoe Town Board meeting on Tuesday night. The Papatoetoe Tennis Club wrote stating that members desired to play between the hours of 1 and 6 p.m. The chairman, Mr. L. J. Kendall, said this matter had previously been raised and a former board had refused permission. Mr. W. J. Nicholson said he had been chairman of the board 'at that time. Sunday play was offensive to tho majority of tho residents. Tho courts were on tho main road and open to public gaze. "Personally, I conscientiously object on religious grounds," added Mr. Nicholson. Tho chairman, who moved that the application be declined, said he was not in favour of Sunday play. Members stated that the board had previously refused the Athletic Club the use of the stadium for training purposes on Sunday. Tho motion was adopted without dissent.
