CREDIT BY FRAUD
TWO YEARS' PROBATION [from our own* correspondent] Hamilton, Monday When William Brewer, aged 54, appeared for sentence in the Hamilton Police Court to-day on a charge of obtaining credit by fraud in connection with the hire of a taxi-cab, the magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, said Brewer had a bad record, and had been declared an habitual criminal. If he was sent back to prison he would probably remain thero for the rest of his life. The taxi driver was to some extent to blame in not making inquiries about accused's ability to pay the fare. Accused was placed on probation for two years. He wast ordered to take out a prohibition order, and to make restitution to the extent of £lO. The magistrate warned accused to show his appreciation of the leniency extended to him by keeping out of trouble in future.
