CANADIANS IN A FOG MACHINE TURNS BACK SAFE LANDING MADE NF.W YORK, July 23 Officials in the New York office of Mr. .1. P. Bicknell, a Toronto mining magnate, announced to-day that they had received word of the safety of the party in Mr. Biekiiell's aeroplane, which included the Premier of Ontario, Mr. M. F. Hepburn. Mr. Bernard K. Smith, a noted New York stock market operator, as well as Mr. Hicknell, and the pilot, .lames F. Towne, of Toronto. The machine was long overdue at Juneau, Alaska. The men spent the night at Carcross. This information reached Toronto by telephone from the Yukon, but no details have been given so far. The "Tinted States Army Signal Corps reports having received a radio message from Skagway stating that the aeroplane turned back from there to Carcross on account of fog. The "United States Weather Bureau reported that flying conditions in the area wore extremely poor. Heavy rains had fallen in tho vicinity of Skagway, Juneau and "White Horse, and the ceiling was low.
Trans-Canada Airlines officials at Montreal previously reported that tho air line bases at Skagway and C'arcross, in Alaska, had been ordered to begin an immediate search, authorisation lor which was received from Mr. Bicknell's Toronto office.
