OHAKUNE CARNIVAL
CROWNING CEREMONY SWIMMING BATHS FUND The efforts of a committee to establish swimming baths in Ohakunc by holding a queen carnival to raise the necessary funds, wore brought to successful conclusion on Friday with a picturesque crowning ceremony in the Majestic Theatre The Maori candidate, Miss Moan a Akipita, with a large majority was the winning Queen, Miss Taylor, Sports Queen, was second, and Miss Daphno Smith, Citizens' Queen, was third. The arrangements for the coronation were organised by Mrs. W. Hussey and were most spectacular. Mr. F. C. Heald and Mr. F. Woodward were in charge of the lighting effects. At the conclusion of the ceremony the Mayor, Mr. H. Delamar, thanked all who had assisted in securing the success of the carnival and also paid a tribute to the enthusiastic support given by the Maori people. Presentations were made to the queen and to the other queen candidates, and Mrs. Hussey was presented with a bouquet. After the departure of the queen and her attendants dancing took place.
