REVUE SEASON
THE ORIGINAL "POPEYE" The Frank Neil Revue Company, which will commence a season of six nights at His Majesty's Theatre on Monday, July 25, contains a number of noted artists, including Billie Costello, the original "Pop-eye the Sailorman." Although this will be Mr. Costello's first appearance in Isew Zealand, he has recently given sketches in Australia, where he was greeted with enthusiasm by record audiences. Australian critics said his artistry can be enjoyed even better on the stage than on the screen. His appearance in Sydney wns an occasion for a scene of unprecedented enthusiasm, and at the conclusion of his performance lie was recalled again and again. The Auckland season'of "Hello, Popeye," which is the title of the revue, is limited, owing to the fact that Air. Costollo has to return at an early date to Hollywood, in order to create more "Popeye" cartoons for the screen. Among the well-known artists who will appear in the revue are Danny Malone, the Irish tenor, who has recently completed a highly successful tour of New Zealand, and Syd. Page, noted New York comedian, who will he assisted by Peggy Karle and Ruth Rudie, comediennes and eccentric dancers. The Mite Trio will be seen in a ballroom Adagio dance and the Ritchie Brothers will give a tap-dancing display. The remaining players include the Kernionde Brothers, who will give a thrilling exhibition of acrobatics, Eileen Burke, who will be heard in several violin items, and Mavis Ritchie, who will be seen in several amusing comedy sketches, In addition, items will be given by Frank Neil's Beauty Ballot. It is claimed that this is the best attraction to be presented by Frank Neil in New Zealand.
