AMERICAN FATALITIES MANY MOTOR ACCIDENTS FIREWORKS TOLL LOW (Received July 5. 8.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. July 5 Deaths by violence totalled more than 400, as America's Independence Day holiday came to an end. Last year's record was 'I9G. Fireworks were responsible for only two deaths, both in the State of Virginia; 208 were due to motor accidents; 98 to drowning, and the remainder to shooting, falls and similar mishaps. The number of injuries from fireworks is an unusually low one. One of the victims was the child film actress Jane Withers, one of whose hands was burned when a string of fire-crackers flared up.
